Brian Harris, Ph.D., Founder and Chairman, The Partnering Group
Dr. Harris is internationally recognized as a thought leader in the field of retailing and consumer products marketing. He has pioneered the global adoption of two significant modern methods in the retailing and consumer products marketing industry: computerized shelf space management and category management. In 1983, Dr. Harris co-founded ABA Groups, which developed the Apollo Space Management System. Then, in the late 1980s, he introduced the industry to the principles and process of category management.
Dr. Harris co-authored ECR’s U.S., European and Brazilian Category Management Best Practices reports. In 1990, he founded The Partnering Group and has successfully implemented his business methods in leading retailers, wholesalers and consumer goods product manufacturers in over 25 countries on six continents. He has trained over 5,000 retail and manufacturing managers and is a frequent speaker at major industry conferences around the world. Dr. Harris is currently co-authoring Shopper & Category Development; he also chairs the Retail Commission on Shopper Marketing, developing industry best practices for collaborative shopper marketing.
Prior to starting ABA Groups in 1983, Dr. Harris was Director of the Food Industry Management Program and a marketing professor in the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Southern California. While at USC, he helped start the Quaker Oats Buying Skills Seminar, which trained over 3,000 U.S. and international retail buyers, merchandisers and category managers. He has published articles in the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Retailing, and is a frequent speaker at leading food industry conferences around the world.
Dr. Harris earned his Ph.D. in Marketing from Michigan State University, as well as an M.B.A. and Bachelors in Economics.
