ADVISORY BOARD

The Advisory Board is comprised of domestic and international retailers and HR professionals whose function is to:

  • Provide guidance to the IGA Coca-Cola Institute to achieve its mission
  • Promote inter-company cooperation and collaboration
  • Reflect the desires and needs of HR/Training professionals of the retail industry
  • Provide an independent assessment of the IGA Coca-Cola Institute’s direction
  • Serve as a source of information and advice to the President
  • Connect local pockets of expertise and isolated professionals

AUSTRALIA
Panton Gordon Edwards, National Training and Development Manager, IGA>D, Australia
Gordon is responsible for developing and delivering a blended training program including online and personal training for IGA store staff for over 1300 IGA retailers on mainland Australia. Gordon has been with Metcash for over 10 years and held a variety of operational and marketing roles within IGA.
CAYMAN ISLANDS
Solomon Raquel Dian Solomon, Training Development Manager, Foster's Food Fair IGA, Cayman Islands
Solomon found her dream job at Foster's Food Fair IGA, where she develops training programs to address the needs of the business and its employees. Born in Grand Cayman, Solomon in infancy moved with her family to the United States. In high school she returned to Cayman where she worked part time at Foster's for four years learning to make doughnuts ad stocking bakery shelves. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in the health field from two Florida universities and worked in Cayman's health-care industry a few years before finding her niche at Foster's IGA.
INDONESIA
Haryanto Tjen Mulyadi Haryanto, Sr. Vice president, Matahari Supermarket, Indonesia
Haryanto has been with Matahari, the largest and leading multi-format modern retailer in Indonesia, since 1993 and held several key positions prior to his present role. He is also a senior retail counselor for IGA Asia. In 2002, Haryanto attended the retail executive program at Cornell University and has taken various courses and training programs through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the University of California at Davis, the Coca-Cola Company and the IGA Coca-Cola Institute. He earned a degree in Economics in 1993 from Atmajaya University in Indonesia.
JAMAICA
Chen Donna Chen, Retail Operations Manager, Super Plus IGA, Jamaica
With more than 30 years of experience in the Jamaican retail sector, Chen ran her own business for several years before joining Super Plus Food Stores in 1999 as HRD Manager. She is currently retail operations manager, overseeing store standards for Jamaica's largest retail chain. She attended Miami Dade community College in Florida and Hunter College in New York and later received a certificate in human resource management from the Jamaican Institute of Management and Production.
UNITED STATES
Blackwood Amy R. Blackwood, Training Manager, Bozzuto's Inc., Connecticut
Prior to joining Bozzuto's Inc. as training manager in January 2006, Blackwood was a senior training specialist with Price Chopper Supermarkets. With seven years of experience in management-skills training, program design and implementation. She holds a B.A. in history/political science and secondary education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and is presently studying toward a master's degree.
Crowl Joan Crowl, Promo Mgr, Lake Region IGA, Pennsylvania
Crowl, who completed the IGA Coca-Cola Institute Supermarket Management Class in May, assumed her present position at Lake Region IGA when it was created in 2005. She moved from Allentown, PA., to the Lake Region area in the Pocono Mountains and joined the IGA as a part-time cashier in Speemer 2003. Crowl's career includes work with a number of corporations, including 22 years with Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown, where she also attended the Baum School of Art, majoring in Fine Arts.
Goelzer Paulo Goelzer, President, IGA Coca-Cola Institute, Illinois
Paulo Goelzer joined IGA International 1996 and later focused his efforts on knowledge transfer and people development, leading the web-based learning, training resources and the education foundation initiatives. He began his career in the FMCG working through various executive positions. As an academic, Dr.Goelzer received the “Honored Professor” award twice. He co-authored two textbooks and has published numerous articles. Paulo holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Development.
Grinstead Jeff Grinstead, Regional Mgr, Houchens, Kentucky
Before coming to Houchens Industries, Grinstead spent 25 years holding various positions with a large supermarket chain. His present job with Houchens places him in the management ranks of a large, private diversified organization that owns more than 400 supermarkets, discount grocery stores, c-stores and tobacco shops in the United States. Twenty-seven Houchens stores fly the IGA banner, with another five undergoing conversion to IGA.
Martin Todd Martin, Vice President, Martins IGA Plus, Illinois
Martin, a native of Effingham, Ill., is a third-generation IGA retailer who grew up working in the family business, which his grandfather Clyde Martin opened in 1938 and converted to IGA in 1952. After studying law enforcement in college and serving a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, Martin returned home in 1999 to join the business full time with his father and owner Newlin Martin. Having worked in virtually every store department, Martin now shares responsibility, with a general manager, for five family-owned stores, including three IGAs.
Pascual Gabriel A. Pascual, Global Account Director, The Coca-Cola Company, Georgia
As a Global Account executive, Pascual represents the Global Partner and title sponsor to the institute, fostering worldwide collaboration and new business between IGA and Coca-Cola. His broad retail experience includes work as both a retailer for two years in his native Argentina and as a supplier with Coke for the past 18 years. He has held various positions serving the leading drink company's most important retailers in Argentina, Mexico, Latin America, the United States and Asia. Pascual is a trained accountant and business administrator.
Williams Deanna Williams, Human Resource Manager, Kirby Foods, Inc./Jerry's IGA, Illinois
When Kirby Foods opened more than 21 years ago in Champaign, Ill, Williams was the first face visitors would see upon entering the door. At the time, the company owned nine IGA stores and had three corporate staff members. Today, Williams manages the human resources function for 19 grocery stores (including 14 IGAs) and 1,000 employees including 15 corporate staff. Married for 20 years, she has two sons.
Zollpriester Jeff Zolpriester, General Manager, Quality Foods Stores IGA, Wisconsin
In 1988, Zollpriester accepted the position of store manager with Quality Foods IGA, now consisting of five stores in central Wisconsin, and was later promoted to general manager. Before joining Quality Foods, he worked his way up through the ranks of a small independent grocery, starting in 1974 while in high school and eventually becoming store manager, a position he held for 10 years. While contributing to the success of Quality Foods, Zollpriester was named 1998 Retailer of the ear with the old Copps Corporation and received an Excellence in Operation Award from the Wisconsin Grocers Association in 2004.
