Introducing a New Course: Sexual Harassment

A message to IGA Retailers from …
Jason King
Course Developer
IGA Coca-Cola Institute

Today I am pleased to announce that the IGA Coca-Cola Institute is introducing a new Web-based course - Sexual Harassment.

Sexual harassment training is essential for all retailers because they are held liable for harassment that occurs in their workplace, even if they were not aware of situation. In 2007, there were over 12,500 cases of sexual harassment in the U.S. To help prevent what are often serious repercussions, retailers must communicate to each and every associate that sexual harassment will not be tolerated in the workplace. A sexual harassment program will help associates follow policies and procedures and comply with the standards of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Currently in the U.S., several states (i.e. California, Connecticut and Maine) have made sexual harassment training mandatory for key associates. Many of those state requirements include at least two hours of online training.

Our course defines sexual harassment, explains the two main types (quid pro quo and hostile environment) and its variants, and finally presents students with scenarios and recommends guidelines to properly handle the situations.

Implementation of a sexual harassment program along with usage of the online training management system can give managers/owners the tools to measure the program's success. Tracking students' training activity and scores can give managers/owners the understanding of their program's progress.

For more information about the course, visit the Institute Web site at http://www.igainstitute.com/ or call 1-800-321-5442 for registration assistance.

That issue may become more significant in the second quarter, particularly as the South Korean beef market begins to heat up," according to Erin Daley, USMEF manager of research and analysis.
